Goldsboro R.I.P.

Nice to get VIPER news, but not this kind.

"On December 04, 2013 VIPER management received a letter from Wayne County advising that they were in the process of expanding their county communications system. Due to additional equipment necessary for their upgrade they would need the space inside their tower house currently occupied by VIPER.

One option is to relocate to another site which requires funding for a new building, tower studies, civil work, line and antenna instillation and frequency licensing. It would also be necessary to implement a new lease.

Option two would be to place a new structure at the existing location again requiring funding for a building, civil work and a new lease.

Option three is to decommission the site.

Unfortunately, given the short timeline for us to act, our only option is to decommission the site until such time that we can find the necessary funding to replace the site.  Currently the time necessary to acquire a new building suitable to house VIPER equipment is, by itself, more than 4 months.

On February 6, 2014 VIPER will cease operation at the Goldsboro site while we review our options. Due to the proximity of the Lee Plant VIPER site we will not see a complete loss of coverage, but we do expect the loss of some in-building coverage.  We will also be moving the MDC equipment to our site located at the Lee Power Plant, but there will be some down time for MDCs utilizing modems during the move."
